Wow amazing food with enormous portions. Each sandwich can easily feed two. I got the chicken soup which the homemade broth was savory and healing. The kugel was also delicious. The Rubens are huge and flavorful. The French toast is a perfect with a crunchy outer crust and fluffy inside. Don't forget their homemade chocolate chip cookies. There were so many more items worth trying but we had no room. We will definitely be back.

This is always a stop for us when we are visiting Philly and it never disappoints! Didn't really try anything new except baked beans which were your average baked beans. Chicken noodle soup, potato latkes (applesauce -so good) Rueben and potato salad were all delicious!!! Service was a little slow but I don't think they had a lot of servers. It's the holidays so people may be off. They still end the meal with cookies!

Famous 4th St. needs no introduction - we were sitting in front of a picture taken of the iconic restaurant in the 1930's. It's the oldest deli in Pennsylvania; and while the ownership changed hands last year, the food and recipes remain the same. I've been in Philly 'temporarily' now for 4 yrs., and I've been to Famous many times - I actually live 6 blocks away. I'm not sure why I waited to post a review, but I felt it was finally time to do so. Of course, it's going to be one of the over sized sandwiches! Corned beef on rye! I came down from NYC 4 years ago and was (and still am) a big fan of Katz's Deli. It's the standard by which all other deli's are judged. Famous 4th is very close - I always get the Pastrami sandwich at Katz's, as I can request a 'lean cut'. However, at Famous, they can provide a lean cut of corned beef, but not pastrami. I happen to like lean cuts. The Corned Beef sandwich at Famous, was delicious, tender and met my expectations. We got one sandwich, each took a half, got two extra slices of rye bread, and we made 2 whole sandwiches from 1. I like my corned beef and pastrami sandwiches with LOTS of mustard, and Famous has a big bottle on every table! We got the Potato Latkes (2) as a side dish. They had a crisp exterior, with a delicious textured potato inside - we added applesauce and sour cream, and they were excellent! Next up, dessert! Well, you will probably never order a whole carrot cake from Famous, like I did for my daughter's birthday. Her favorite is carrot cake.....yet she couldn't believe it when we brought it out. It was, by far, the largest cake we'd ever seen - other than wedding cakes. Famous has great desserts, and the carrot cake is just one of them. It's a luscious, moist cake where you can see and taste the sweetness of the shredded carrots. It's oversized in all respects, including the amount of icing - you may find leaving a little behind. Nonetheless, the bright spiced flavors in the cake, combined with a velvety cream cheese frosting puts it near the top of my list for carrot cakes! If you're one of the very few, who haven't been to Famous 4th, it's worth a visit!

The deli is fast paced and fun. The service is excellent and the portions are huge and delicious. I see why this place is always busy and is the best in the city... ( in my opinion)

I had the best pastrami I have ever had at this restaurant when we were there n Philly. Sandwich was huge! I do wish they had more mustard options, as not everyone likes a spicy, brown mustard. My daughter enjoyed her HUGE bowl of mushroom barley soup, my husband had a respectable steak & cheese as well. Fries were excellent. Potato pancake was flavorful and my daughter enjoyed her french dip sandwich. We had lots of leftovers as the portions are generous. I will tell you that the giant slices of cake they have in their case were too good to be true. Disappointed in both varieties we brought back to the hotel with us.

I got absolutely mogged by a Yoga Sculpt class at Corepower, one of those ones that makes you see God. It's good to be humbled like that every once in a while though. I obviously needed a big meal to replenish my soul, so I made the walk over to Famous 4th Street Deli. I'd walked by many times, making a mental note to try it as it looks BOMB, and it is famous after all... I walked in and immediately loved the ambiance: tiled floors and walls, dried sausages hanging, fresh bread stacked in a corner, employees slicing meat behind the counter with white aprons, delicious pastries staring at you through the glass below the counter, etc. It's just an authentic Jewish deli. There were some people waiting in what had some semblance of a line, but I couldn't tell if they had ordered or not. I'm really shy but after about 2 minutes, I mustered up all of my courage and asked if they had ordered. "Yeah, just waiting!" they responded. LET'S GO! 2024 IS THE YEAR OF THE SHY GUY! I took a look at the beast of a menu, but saw a sandwich that was just pastrami and egg so I knew what I had to do. I ordered that bad boy, waited about 6 minutes in the semblance of the line before I tapped my phone to pay the $10 and walked back to my gfs apartment to eat. This sandwich was a TANK. It would have been $25 in New York no doubt. Probably 3 eggs and tons of pastrami smacked between two pieces of fresh rye bread. I grabbed some hot sauce from the fridge and started ripping into this like I had never eaten before. I looked at my girlfriend like "yo wtf why have you never taken me here before!?" I mean it wasn't Katz good, but it was still damn good. I will be here again whenever I am in town, as there is nothing quite like eating a quality big meal after getting a good sweat on a Sunday morning. "I deserve this" type beat. Exactly what I needed after such a dominant performance in Corepower. THANK YOU 4TH STREET DELI PLEASE NEVER SWITCH UP! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

A classic. They've been around 100 years, so they must be doing something right. Never had a bad meal here. And the cakes and pastries are delicious. Breakfast is really good here, but lunch is where it gets special. Deli sandwiches and salads piled high, with great sides that make it hard to choose. The soups are meals in themselves. I over-ordered and took mine to go. It was nearly 32 oz of tasty, hearty mushroom barley soup. The fries are delicious planks of fresh Russets with the skins on. The potato pancakes are dense and crispy and flavorful. I really like their pickles, which I think is the true test of any respectable delicatessen. The brisket is fall-apart tender and so good. All portions are ridiculously large. One brisket entree provides enough meat for nearly a week of meals. I know because it did!
